ERI understands that the next generation will be responsible for our wildlife and environment. The Youth Adventure Weekend has been developed for ages twelve to sixteen. During the weekend event experienced staff and instructors combine hunting and related activities, together with education and wildlife management issues. Youth do not need to have a wildlife or hunting background to participate. This program is designed for the novice and experienced alike. We want to instill an appreciation of the outdoors, as well as a respect and understanding of conservation, and the relationship to game management and wildlife resources.

The weekend is held each August and includes all meals, outdoor skills and firearm safety instruction, interaction with elk in their natural habitat, education of wildlife, environmental, and conservation concerns. In addition, each youth will participate in a capture hunt and may keep the antlers as a remembrance of his or her experience.

You can make a difference:

  • Spread the word! Please share and encourage youth ages 12 to 16 to participate.
  • Become a youth sponsor. We want every youth with the desire to learn about wildlife to be able to participate. Please consider sponsoring a youth to attend this event. Donations are tax deductible.
  • Become an event sponsor. There are many additional expenses to make this event a success -- an amazing amount of food can be consumed by one teenager! In addition to learning many outdoor skills and participating in a research capture, each young person will receive items to be used for future outdoor adventures of their own.
  • Volunteer before the event. Help plan, organize, and advertise.
  • Volunteer during the event. Lead an event - rifle, archery, fishing, outdoor skills; help prepare meals; chaperone or oversee an activity, etc.

Call today! Let us know how you would like to participate. Call Sharla at 970-749-4647 or email sharla@elkresearch.org.
